Tea is typically categorized into 6 major categories, based on 3 characteristics: Wilting, Oxidation, and Bruising.Most tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinesis plant. The way it is processed determines it's category. Click a category to learn more in depth.

Black Tea (Red Tea)

Withered, bruised (sometimes even crushed), and fully oxidized.

Green Tea

Unwithered, unoxidized. Simply dried.

Oolong Tea

Wilted, bruised, and partially ozidized. Often curled or twisted, giving the appearance of a wulong, a dark dragon.

White Tea

Minally processed, typically just withered and dried without oxidation

Yellow Tea

Unwilted, minimal oxidation,

Dark Tea (fermented)

Starts as green tea and then ferments. Known as Pu'er in the province of Yunnan, China
